![]() I have a couple of guys who sounds like your friend. They weren't inherently good at math hence it was hard for them if they don't study. Half the people in my class barely had C's, but they weren't engineering majors so they didn't get a damn. I did not study or read one page in the text. If you weren't before, you are forced to get good at it. At the school I go to calc 2 is just hard for everyone because it's an engineering school so it pushes you even if you are good at math. It depends on the teacher and what the standards are at your school. He is doing something wrong he should talk to a professor for help The key to other engineering and science courses being less difficult is knowing the math involved. The best thing is to work all of the problems at the end of the chapter and not just the assigned and reference the old math concepts. If he says he studies a billion hours and he is not getting it then he should consider how many of those hours he is actually paying attention to the course work. Nothing wrong with failing cal 2 but something is going on. If he is 34 he probably is working full time. In those areas of algebra and trigonometry where he is weak he needs to visit those books and work problems until its second nature. He needs to keep an algebra and trigonometry book close by. Cal 2 uses all of the algebra and trigonometry with a sprinkling of calculus at the end of the problem.
